RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

The information is not always out dated. Somethings just don't change. In my case there are 2750 sent messages and 2500 received. I keep my old emails too btw. Well, you're screwed... No sense in beating around the bush. Better get what you can while you can.

RE: Fuel Economy

"The Chevy dealer tells me that the new 2500 w/6.6L gas and 10 speed will deliver 20-25% better mileage (from the 9-10 mpg that I get now while towing) than that the current 1/2 ton with 6.2L gas and 6 speed trans." You really don't believe anything a car salesman says, do you? Tried that when one showed me a quote for a new truck. I said, "So since you never believe anything a car salesman says, it's free right?" Apparently you do need to believe SOME things a car salesman says.

RE: Heavy-duty short bed ...

IIRC a short bed regular cab 250/2500 pickup has never been offered. Maybe in the '60s, but definitely not in the last 30 years. Maybe someone can prove otherwise? I've never seen or heard of one. I've seen rock crawlers with 3/4 and 1 ton axles, but that's it. Even in 1/2 tons the short bed regular cab model was a "sport" deal. The fact of the matter is the regular cab is on life support. Regular cabs are used predominantly by contractors and utilities. I'm sure numbers will indicate very few personal-use sales. The extra space of the double/crew cab has proven overwhelmingly popular. Just realized I can probably say whatever I want at this point. If they go to the new site tomorrow this response will disappear.

RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)

and what is the best way to back them up? Open each message, highlight it with your mouse, right click, copy. Paste into a notepad document, word document, or whatever your favorite document editor is. After doing this about six times, question your life choices and reevaluate your need for a bunch of old messages containing outdated information.

The username or password is not recognized. My login creds do not work. I am tech savvy, so I know I have them correct. Same here. With log in not working... I'm not sure how tech savvy I am! lol Can't seem to get on. Is everything up and running? You're still able to post here, which means the new site has not gone live yet. If I'm not mistaken when the new site goes live, the old site will be locked down.

RE: Tow Vehicle w/ Best Back Seat for Passengers - Ram Mega Cab?

Thank you for the insights above. Do any of the crew cab models have rear seats that recline? Transporting someone with back issues and the recline relieves things. Nope. What's wrong with this person riding shotgun? I had an elderly friend that traded off his beautiful stock 1500 pickup for a minivan because the ride was too hard on his back. To me it rode like a cloud. There was no way he'd be able to ride in a 3500 even a modern one with relatively soft suspension.

RE: Tow Vehicle w/ Best Back Seat for Passengers - Ram Mega Cab?

I believe the OP's intention is to tow a 9000lb travel trailer with a cab full of passengers. That does not require 2-1/2 tons of payload capacity or an 8ft bed. Folks have been getting along fine with 6-1/2ft beds for decades now. I personally have not found anything that made me stop and say, "Gosh golly gee, I wish I had an 8ft bed." I've even hauled 16ft lumber in a 6-1/2ft bed. I'm not traveling from West Virginia to Colorado like that, but I sure can get home from Lowes.

RE: Design ideas for a platform to lower camper onto...

If you need a visual on the concept of the plywood X's, take your hands and make the Vulcan salute with both hands. That's make a V with your ring and middle finger on one side, ring and pinky on the other. Now take the two Vulcan salutes, point the open V's toward each other, and jam them together so they interlock. Now cut off your hands at the wrists (in your imagination, or literally, your choice) and pretend they're sheets of plywood.

RE: I'm curious to know what you would do?

^^^How old is your current one? I’m not wanting you to put yourself in my shoes. I’m wanting to understand how others will view a sudden huge price increase from one year to the next. So I want to know if you were going to be buying a truck now would want to avoid the 2023 on account of the huge price increase or do the upgrades justify the cost in your way of thinking.I guess I’m not qualified to answer your question because even if I was going to buy a “new” truck today, the one I’d buy would be at least 3 or 4 years old ( or as in the case of my current truck - I get a fire sale, moving out of the country tomorrow, smokin hot deal). I like the "get a smokin hot deal" idea .... do they only come by once every 20 years? It would be great if you could take advantage of more of those smokiin hot deals. There are no more "smokin hot deals." People don't underprice what they have because they don't know what it's worth anymore. It's so easy to get a value online and any vehicle dealer will do a free appraisal for you if you're willing to put up with a few cold calls. Even on the off chance you're not tech savvy you know someone who is and ask them to get you a value. It's the world of the "I know what I have. No lowballers." If it's being sold cheap, there's something wrong with it that they're not telling you. That or it's stolen. You HAVE to assume that to protect yourself.

RE: Anyone put a truck camper on a trailer?

I agree. Unless there is something wrong with the TT, given your current financial instability, the wise decision would be to stick with the travel trailer and keep a "swear jar" for your eventual upgrade. To go to a TC, you are cutting your living space by half or more. What you have now is basically a "TC on a trailer" already.

RE: Lance Replacement lens?

Google "amber identification light bar." You're not going to find an exact match, I'd imagine.

RE: Prestone all-vehicle coolant

So that makes you a "hold me beer" type? Really, I don't understand what you think is so avant-garde, daring, revolutionary, or rebellious about what you did. It's "ALL VEHICLE" coolant. They couldn't market and sell it as such if it didn't work with ALL coolants. Bottle doesn't say "All but Dexcool" it says "ALL," period. Should say right on the jug in the fine print what it's compatible with. For sure for legal CYA purposes it would CLEARLY say what it's NOT compatible with. If it doesn't say "Not for use with Dexcool" on the jug, you use it, and it damages your engine, they owe you an engine and there is no court of law on in the United States that would rule otherwise. Don't know what back country hillbilly Walmart you went into, but my back country hillbilly Walmart carried Dexcool and all the other "special" coolants as recently as last July. In other words, you don’t have experience mixing it, correct? No, but I wouldn't have any qualms about using it if I needed to. Since the "right" coolants for all my vehicles are readily available where I live, I have a good supply of the "right" coolants for all my vehicles, AND I rarely need to add any coolant, it's a non issue. I also would not feel the need to go on an online form and thump my chest because I did it and the world didn't instantly come to an end.

RE: Design ideas for a platform to lower camper onto...

Having to stack and unstack a bunch of cinder blocks is excessively complicated and a colossal waste of time to me. Not to mention that cider blocks are structurally unsound unless used as designed and intended. There have been plenty of threads on camper stands on this forum. Early on I built a low platform with a dozen large pneumatic caster wheels so I could roll the camper around my gravel floor barn. The wheels immediately dug into the hard-packed gravel and made it just about impossible to move the camper. By next spring the tires were all flat and wouldn't hold air, and the camper was tucked into a corner of my building where I couldn't get to it with the truck. So that idea sucked. For a couple of years I set the camper on saw horses and 4x4s. That wasn't too bad, but eventually I got lazy and just left it standing on the jacks when it wasn't on the truck. The jacks haven't said a word in protest. In fact it's been standing on the jacks for the last two years because I haven't been able to use the camper. It's going to be lowered on the truck and moved out of the barn for the first time in two years this weekend. Oh, I did build a small flatbed wagon on an old farm wagon running gear, and set the camper on that one winter. That worked great, rolled around easy, but took up too much space in the barn because I couldn't back the truck under the camper in the winter.

RE: SEEKING TOW VEHICLE VALUE??

Doesn't work for me. I tried specifying how many miles out to search, and got the same local results. There used to be a "search nearby areas" you could check off which then listed all the other CL sites within hundreds of miles. That's gone.

RE: 6.6 Chevy gas engine

The "good and bad points" are the same as in any other gas vs. diesel discussion. The good, it's a gasser. You won't get the problems that SOMETIMES happen to diesels, and it may be less expensive to maintain on a per-service basis. The fuel is less expensive. The bad, it's a gasser. It won't pull like a diesel, so if you have an apoplexy any time your engine runs faster than 2000RPM, plan on ending up in the hospital sooner or later. It will need to be maintained more often. It will use more fuel.

RE: Ordering a Chev 3500 (Oct 2023)

When on a dealer lot, pickup trucks, especially HD ones, really hold their value. So much so that 1-2 year old used ones with ~20,000 miles are often right at or more than list price of a new truck. (Of course when you're trying to trade one in, it's worthless and you should just scrap it.) Do you "save" $50,000, OR are you buying an old truck and getting $50,000 less value out of it? You're looking at a 10+ year old truck to find one priced $50,000 less than new. Around here with the GM's that means the body is shot. When you do come across one that is priced like you think it should be, what's wrong with it? Been down that road a few times. That "too good to be true" deal, usually is.

RE: SEEKING TOW VEHICLE VALUE??

Dude, pump the brakes. Just get on CL and FB and look at what’s for sale. Price accordingly. No need to complicate it with whatever you’re doing ….or just look up the value on kbb and quit clicking links to marketing ****. ^^^^ This, in spades. Just cruise through FB or CL plugging in search terms to reflect your vehicle. See what comes up. Price within that range or a little above / below depending if you want big $$$ or a quick sale. There's jack-all for F250s of that vintage on Craigslist and the "search nearby areas" function was removed so you'll have to spend hours going from site to site to find more of jack-all for F250's. I'd like someone to show me how to get searches to work on FB Marketplace. When I search for F250, I get like 3 listings then there's nothing but ads for anything but, including patio furniture and Mexican food.

RE: SEEKING TOW VEHICLE VALUE??

On the screen where it's calculating your value, you need to click "Not now, maybe later" instead of putting in your email address. Or just wait. It will bring up the values.

RE: New to me Lance Legend 945

I know you're kidding, but if you just wanted something to set it on in the driveway while you work on it the Tundra will work just fine. That is if the frame isn't totally rusted out and rotten on the Tundra...
